Every Penny Counts
As you drive past Squaw Valley Park do you ever marvel at the groups of girlfriends, chatting and walking together, the solitary jogger, the senior couple hand-in-hand, or the dogs and owners out for their daily walk? Most of us remember the park “pre-walking trail” and that small addition to our community has been of immense benefit.
Now imagine Squaw Park on a much grander scale. Envision acres of walking trails, a dedicated bike path, massive stone piers serving as observation decks to view the riverfront habitat, kids fishing along the shore, playgrounds, picnic areas and green-space along the Allegheny River. Imagine a space that also handles problematic sewer runoff and reclaims land thought to be “undevelopable”. If you think Squaw Valley Park has added to the quality of life of our community, the potential of the Aspinwall Marina morphing into a riverfront park is exponentially more exciting!
We hope to raise $2.7 more to turn the property into a park. It’s a huge undertaking, but we’re off to a great start.
Major funding from the foundations and government agencies is heavily influenced by the level of the community’s involvement. There were many great efforts to demonstrate the commitment: from the Mom Prom held on April 30th, to T-shirt sales (to order yours go to shirt@brilliantave.com), a British Invasion themed party at the Fox Chapel Golf Club, and a dog parade on June 4th. Every contribution makes a difference, and we hope you’ll participate in similar events in the future.
